The Group

Our Mission Statement

The Animal Genomics group is a research group in the Department of Environmental Systems Science at ETH Zürich and part of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences.

In our group, we work at the intersection of quantitative genetics, statistical genomics, computational biology and bioinformatics. We analyze large-scale genomics and transcriptomics data of livestock to pinpoint sequence variation that is responsible for phenotype variation.

Our mission is to develop and implement strategies that will enable sustainable and efficient animal breeding, thereby maintaining biodiversity and reducing the impact of animal-based food production on the environment.

Teaching

We contribute to the Bachelor and Master curriculum in Agricultural Sciences. We offer courses on genetics and genomics, and organize excursions to research facilities, breeding associations, artificial insemination centers, and genetic evaluation centers. We supervise Bachelor and Master thesis projects related to phenotypic and genotypic data analyses in livestock. Possible thesis topics can be found here
